Actress Yami Gautam's movie'Article 370' hit the theatres on Friday, February 23. Despite, PVR providing tickets for Rs 99 on Friday as part of their Cinema Lovers Day initiative, the film managed to earn over Rs 6 crore on opening day. The film made on the controversial Article 370 only gained momentum over the weekend. In its first weekend, ‘Article 370’ grossed Rs 34.71 crore, more than any other film in recent weeks. Upon achieving these numbers, lead actress Yami Gautam revealed that when the movie was being made, she was told it won’t work as "it's too technical" and is loaded with "political jargon".

Yami took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to thank the audience for proving those wrong who thought the film would not succeed in the box office.

She wrote, “When we were making 'Article 370', so many people told us that this film won't work with the audience ... . But we went ahead with our gut because we knew those naysayers were underestimating our audience."

Yami added, "Thank you all for proving them absolutely wrong. Thank you so much for giving so much love to our small little film, with a big heart. We are humbled and will remain forever grateful to all of you. Dhanyawaad!"

In ‘Article 370’, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale and produced by Aditya Dhar, Yami essays the role of an intelligence officer. It tells the story of the politically charged situation in Jammu and Kashmir that led to the abrogation of Article 370, the constitutional provision that guaranteed the state's 'special status'.

The Central government on August 5, 2019, revoked Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated it into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to 'Article 370' film while he was addressing a gathering in Jammu. He said, "I have heard that a film on Article 370 is going to be released this week... It is a good thing as it will help people in getting correct information."

Responding to PM Modi's speech, Yami took to Instagram and wrote, "It is an absolute honour to watch PM @narendramodi Ji talk about #Article370Movie. My team and I really hope that we all exceed your expectations in bringing this incredible story to the screen! " Helmed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, the film also stars Priyamani, Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar.
