Ananya Panday

What Ananya Panday thinks of the paparazzi calling her ‘ACP'

Bollywood actress Ananya Panday, who is fondly known as ‘ACP’ thanks to the paparazzi, reveals how the abbreviation came into being. On the latest episode of Mid-day’s Sit With Hitlist, Ananya gets candid about her rapport with the shutterbugs. She also dabbles into the nicknames of her father Chunky Panday and uncle Chikki Panday, and reveals what she thinks is the story behind them.  How did Ananya Panday get the nickname ‘ACP’  Ananya Panday recalls that she was attending the Mumbai Police show Umang where she was christened with this fun abbreviation. She says, “I think I want to give them props for how creative they are. So, the police show was happening and I went and I was posing for the paps and they started calling me ACP for Ananya Chunky Pandey. But now it is stuck. So, like I don’t know I keep telling them to call me different things but they always go back to it.”  Ananya adds that over the years she has learned to ignore how many people are watching her. She states, “Now even the camera-clicking sound has become like I can’t hear it anymore.”  When asked if the paparazzi saying ACP bothers her, the actress answers, “No, now it has just become…otherwise you are going to be hyper-aware all the time you are going to be so conscious. I think I was a very conscious actor at the start. When I started I was very aware of every expression I would make, I was a little reserved, and I would be scared to kind of experiment or try to do different things.”  What is the story behind Chunky Panday’s name  Ananya Panday reveals that even she doesn’t know the story behind her father Chunky Panday's name. “My dad's name is Suyash and my uncle's name is Alok. But I have asked them and every time I ask them their story changes so then I don’t believe them. It is not a ghar ka naam given by their parents.  My dad claims that he was a little chunky growing up that’s why but I have seen pictures and he was like a stick growing up. So, I don’t know what he is talking about. My chachu loves eating chikki. But these are fake stories. I wish I had a fun name,” she concludes.

Ananya Panday speaks about her Bollywood icons

Ananya has pictures of these Bollywood superstars on her vanity van mirror

It was Ananya Panday’s dream to be a Bollywood actress. She recalls growing up watching Hindi movies and being obsessed with the world of glitz and glamour. On the latest episode of Mid-day’s Sit With Hitlist, Ananya gets candid about dressing up like Kareena Kapoor Khan, having pictures of her favourite stars in the vanity van, and more.  Ananya Panday would dress up like Kareena Kapoor Khan  Ananya Panday reveals, “I would dress up like Kareena and I would know the hook steps of every single song, I would perform at every birthday party. Like no one had to ask me. Usually, the parents are like bacha nacho and all, I was ready before my parents asked me to. I think it came from the fact that my dad had this video camera at that time I could see myself. Since a young age only I have always wanted to be an actress and be in front of the camera. That was all I knew.”  Although Ananya has made it to the A-listers, she is still in awe of her seniors. “I have a picture of Lolo (Karisma Kapoor) in my vanity van stuck on the mirror. It is a picture of her and Salman (Khan) and ‘Main Apni Favourite Hoon’ (Kareena’s dialogue from Jab We Met) on my vanity,” she adds.  Ananya Panday is the biggest Alia Bhatt fan  Ananya Panday took over the ‘Student of the Year’ franchise during its second installment. The first one marked Alia Bhatt’s acting debut. “Everyone is like, ‘Which college did you go to?’ and I am like, ‘I went to St. Teresa's in Student of the Year 2’. I am the biggest Alia Bhatt fan. To be in the same school as her is a big thing for me.”  Heaping praise on Alia, Ananya adds, “She is just like an overachiever. She started out younger than me. We were at some screening of ‘Student of the Year’ and I was 14 or 13 at that time and there were no seats in the theatre, so I was sitting on the floor, and I remember she came on screen as Shanaya and I was like I want to be her.”  Ananya Panday asserts that Alia Bhatt is very relatable. “She owns her mistakes, you know she is amazing off-screen, she is candid, she is cool, she is not afraid to admit that she is wrong or she has made mistakes, but she has always grown and really shut people up with her work,” she concludes.

Still from Do Patti

'Do Patti' X review: Kriti Sanon's dual act gets a thumbs up, Shaheer Sheikh win

The Netflix film 'Do Patti' has been released on the streaming platform and reactions from the audience has been flowing in on social media. The film marks Kriti Sanon's debut as a producer. She also plays the double role of twin characters in the twisted thriller penned by writer Kanika Dhillon. The film will also see Kajol don the police uniform onscreen for the first time. Actor Shaheer Sheikh who is a well-known name in the television industry marked his feature film debut with Do Patti. Do Patti is a story of siblings, twins, played by Sanon, who do not have “obvious physical differences except for the length of their hair,” the actress pointed out during an earlier conversation with mid-day. “They were born and brought up in the same environment, and speak in a similar manner. It is their personalities, the way they react to things, their expressions, and their [respective emotional] baggage from their past, that was different.”  Netizens give their review of Do Patti  This is a role unlike Sanon's previous two outings this year- Crew and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya- and netizens have loved her performance in the film. Shaheer has also left an impact with his twisted character in the film. Kajol has given a power-packed performance as always. However, the audience has been divided on their reaction to the plot of the film. While the performances have been praised, some felt that the plot was too predictable and was let loose in the second half.  Take a look at the reactions: over the years people have had a lot to say about kriti but this scene in #DoPatti is enough to show how much she has evolved as an actress 🥺2 absolutely different crying styles for 2 of her different characters in the same scene where she's her only co-actor 👏🏼#KritiSanon pic.twitter.com/XWt421Cd2Y — ΜΔI ʚɞ (@MaimoonFA) October 26, 2024 Shaheer's portrayal of Dhruv reminded me one of his iv years ago!! This film has been like my baby; Kanika and I have nurtured it from the start, especially in our capacity as producers and it's truly fulfilling to see this journey through with Netflix. Do Patti also has a poignant message woven in which is the reason why I chose to produce this film as my first, and I can't wait for audiences to experience it.” Reflecting on her role as Vidya Jyothi, Kajol shares, “As an actor, I have always looked forward to roles that allow me to connect with my audience. This being the first time I play a police officer, I can't wait for my fans to see me in this new avatar. Bringing this powerful story to life has been rewarding.” The high-stakes drama reunites powerhouse talents Kriti Sanon and Kajol after Dilwale (2015) in an edge-of-the-seat story of betrayal, and the complexities of human nature in a dangerous game of one-upmanship. Speaking about the film, Kanika Dhillon, writer and producer with her banner Kathha Pictures, says, "Do Patti is very close to my heart. Collaborating with two powerhouse performers - Kriti and Kajol was an absolute delight. I am glad that this powerful tale of sibling rivalry, and redemption with a gut-wrenching message can be enjoyed by audiences across the world thanks to Netflix and their global viewership.”

Ananya Panday on her bond with Shah Rukh Khan

What does Ananya Panday call Shah Rukh Khan? ‘He likes being in our gang’

Bollywood actress Ananya Panday, who found herself tangled in the insider-outsider debate, courtesy of Siddhant Chaturvedi, asserts that she doesn’t like this division in the film industry. In the latest episode of Mid-day’s Sit With Hitlist, Ananya cites superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s example when it comes to an actor from a non-filmy background, who made it big, bonding with him since childhood, and more.  Ananya Panday on the insider-outsider debate  Ananya Panday admits that she’s been very vocal about having an upper hand in the industry. She explains, “After a point, I think your work speaks and people have to still like you on screen and watch you because there have been many cases where people have come from film families and they have not been successful because they have not resonated with the audience. Then there have been people from the outside who have done extremely well. We should all support each other and give love to each other because the industry and the people have given us so much. I don’t know why we are creating these lines and borders.”  Ananya Panday on Siddhant Chaturvedi’s ‘struggle’ jibe  For those unversed, Siddhant Chaturvedi went viral with his jibe at Ananya Panday during a roundtable. He said, "Jahan humare sapne pure hote hai wahan inka struggle shuru hota hai.” Sharing her take on the same, she stated, “I can joke about this and tell him to his face and everyone has made it seem that there is some feud but I have worked with him. He is one of my closest friends in the industry.”  What does Ananya Panday call Shah Rukh Khan?  Ananya Panday, who shares a great bond with Suhana Khan, says that she calls Shah Rukh Khan “SRK.” She elaborates, “He likes being in our gang, and with us, he is always going to be SRK. I also call him Shah Rukh uncle, but I call him Shah Rukh sir in a work and professional environment of course.”  ‘Shah Rukh Khan is one of the best fathers’  Ananya Panday reveals that she has grown up watching Shah Rukh Khan deal with fame quite normally despite being an outsider. She says, “We didn’t even realise until he went and stood outside Mannat and we saw those thousands of people come. It was always like someone was like a father figure who taught us how to run on our sports days and practice Taekwondo with us. He was a very involved and present parent. The way he is with Suhana and AbRam and Aryan is amazing you know. He is one of the best fathers." “Suhana always says that even though he shoots for like 12-16 hours he will always come home and spend time with his children and involve in their college admissions and their homework and everything. Like any problem that I am facing, I can talk to him about it and he is very non-judgmental,” she adds.

Ananya Panday speaks about coping with a heartbreak

How Ananya Panday deals with heartbreak: ‘Talk it out, cry, eat'

Bollywood actress Ananya Panday, who is often touted as a Gen Z star, has come a long way with her filmography. From playing the quintessential newbie, trying her hand at various characters, to finally proving her mettle, thanks to OTT, Ananya has been a discovery even for ace filmmakers. That being said, she equally makes headlines for her personal life. In the latest episode of Mid-day’s Sit With Hitlist, Ananya gets candid about dealing with heartbreak.  How did Ananya Panday deal with her last heartbreak?  Ananya Panday was rumoured to be dating Aditya Roy Kapur. The two were spotted at romantic getaways and for dinner outings in the city. While they never confirmed or denied their relationship, a couple of months ago, it was reported that the two have parted ways.  Speaking about coping with heartbreak, Ananya shares, “I deal with it pretty normally like anyone would. You have to feel whatever you are feeling. I don’t think you should stop yourself from feeling anything because it is going to pile up eventually and it might affect you in your next relationship or some other time in life. So you have to go with all the emotions, talk it out, cry, eat how much ever you want to eat, get it all out of your system, and then life moves on.”  Ananya Panday jokes about being cheated on in every film  Ananya Panday’s OTT projects have a similar streak. Be it ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’, ‘Gehraiyaan’, or ‘CTRL’, her character has always had to deal with infidelity. She says, “There is always some cheating or something happening like why has this become this? Someone was joking yesterday about how you know Salman sir's signature is he takes his shirt off in every film, now my signature is she has gotten cheated on in this film. I don’t want that to be my signature.”  Ananya Panday on PDA in real life  The actress, who plays an influencer in ‘CTRL’ referenced her cousin Alanna Panday, who is an internet sensation. However, for Ananya to be that public is scary. “I am saying in general, it is very fascinating. We may not do PDA in real life but in front of the camera people like that. If we hold hands or if we do something cute. Just that switch on switch off I found really interesting. It’s very scary,” she concludes.
