One year after the 26/11 terror attack shattered the country, Shailendra Singh's Percept Limited and Sunil Shetty's Popkorn Entertainment have planned a Bollywood versus Tollywood cricket match to spread the message of peace and raise funds for peace awareness campaigns. The tentative venue for the match is the DY Patil Stadium.
Star team
Says Singh, "The Bollywood team will be led by Sunil Shetty and will comprise Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Sohail Khan, Ashish Choudhry and other stars with whom we are still in talks." Adds Sunil Shetty, "The cricket match is for unity and peace. It's not a one-off event. Every year, we will hold a series of events to spread the message of peace."
Cash for charity
However, Singh says that the funds raised will not be handed over to the government. "If we raise even Rs 50 lakh through charity events, we will channelise the funds into advertising campaigns that will spread the message of peace. These campaigns will feature artistes who are participating in our events."
The inspiration
He adds that America and European countries inspired the idea of a peace initiative. "They often spread the message of peace through fund raisers and concerts. We are putting all our resources together to propagate peace. Especially in the minds of the youth."
Concert for peace
Percept is also organising The India for Peace Concert on November 1 at the Andheri Sports Complex, featuring Bollywood, television, music and sports personalities. Says Singh, "We want to salute the armed forces who ensure India's security. Jail stars will perform while Madhur Bhandarkar will recite a Marathi poem. Kapil Dev and Vijendra Singh will also take part."
