Kalki makers tease development of Deepika Padukone's role in sequel

It's not even been six months since Nag Ashwin's sci-fi epic Kalki enthralled the audience worldwide, and the producers of the Prabhas starrer are here to give fans an exciting update on the much-anticipated sequel. Attending the screening of Kalki at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt spoke about developing Kalki 2.  "Kalki 2 is underway. Pre-production is happening. We shot 30-35 percent of the part two alongside part one itself," Swapna told reporters at the red carpet here. There have been reports that rest of the sequel will begin filming next year around February-March. When mentioned this to the sister duo, Swapna said, "We still haven't locked the dates but we will soon announce." What also makes Kalki 2 special for fans is that it is the first film that Deepika Padukone will shoot since welcoming motherhood earlier this year. Padukone had earlier mentioned how she was pregnant while shooting Kalki, interestingly in which she plays a mother.  The Dutt sisters looked thrilled at the mention of the new chapter in the life of their leading lady. "She will still be the mother in some part of the film," Swapna shared  Kalki also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani.

Aamir Khan's cousin Mansoor Khan quit films for THIS reason

Aamir Khan's cousin Mansoor Khan, the director of 90's popular films 'Qayamat se Qayamat Tak' and 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar' has a unique take on the city of dreams- Bombay, and his unpopular opinion allowed him to pursue cheese farming in Coonoor away from the glitz and glamour of Bollywood. The acclaimed director in a conversation with India Now and How YouTube channel says that he was sure about not living in Mumbai. It was a predetermined plan, even when he was in the US in 1978 he knew that he did not want to live in Mumbai. The filmmaker explained that most people don't understand his conscious decision to leave Mumbai because they see and know him only as a filmmaker and not beyond that. The only thing he was not sure about was when he would be able to run away from the city.  Mansoor Khan's advice to youngsters Mansoor further says that many young people visit his farm and ask him how he made cheese farming possible in a place like Coonoor, which lacks adequate medical facilities. He also mentions that not everyone needs to leave Mumbai and move to a place like Coonoor; it was simply his personal choice because he did not want to stay in the city. He considers himself fortunate to live in a heaven-like place, although even an open field would have been sufficient for him. The filmmaker reveals that he does not enjoy discussing films and prefers working on non-fictional and real stories. He also added that leaving films was not difficult for him, but it was a life-altering challenge for his wife, Tina, who had recently ventured into the baking business. With a little convincing here and there, he suggested that she consider doing something different, as making cakes was already a common practice. However, Khan did not want to impose his will on her and wanted her to be truly happy. Mansoor Khasn's upcoming projects in Bollywood However, Mansoor has been making to and fro trips from Coonoor to Mumbai for work. He went to work on Imran Khan's debut film 'Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na' and is currently working on Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan's second stint 'Ek Din'. Mansoor's daughter, Zayn Marie, is also an actor. Mansoor opened up about his life post success in films on the YouTube channel, 'India Now and How'.

Maharashtra Elections 2024: Ajaz Khan fails to beat NOTA

Ajaz Khan, the 'Bigg Boss' fame actor-turned-politician, contested the Maharashtra Assembly election from the Versova constituency. The actor-turned-politician received only 155 votes after the tally was announced. Surprisingly, the actor has a grand fan following of about 5.6 million on Instagram, but that clearly didn’t translate into votes. Notably, the number of votes Ajaz Khan received is about one-third of the votes that went to the NOTA option. The results show that the NOTA category received about 1,298 votes, which is significantly higher than the number of votes cast for Ajaz.   Ajaz Khan struggled to breach 150-vote mark Fielded by Chandrashekhar Azad's Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), Ajaz Khan got a disappointing response, and his political debut has fallen flat, much like his earlier foray into politics during the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, Khan had contested from the Mumbai North Central seat during the general elections, but he also met with a disappointing response then. Though Ajaz failed to turn his social media following into votes, the Versova constituency witnessed a fierce fight between Haroon Khan of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Bharati Lavekar of the BJP. The results declared Haroon Khan as the winner with a big margin of over 1,600 votes, while Ajaz Khan struggled to breach even the 150-vote mark.   More about Maharashtra Elections 2024 The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is on course to retain power in Maharashtra. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) appeared to be stumbling, with its candidates leading in just 50 seats. The Mahayuti was leading in 222 seats, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was leading in 53 seats.   According to the Election Commission’s website at 3:30 pm today, the party position in the outgoing vote count is as follows: BJP 129, Shiv Sena 56, NCP 39, Congress 20, Shiv Sena (UBT) 19, NCP (SP) 12.   As the state awaits the final results, a key question looms large: Will the state assembly have a Leader of the Opposition (LoP)? According to constitutional provisions, the post of LoP is granted to the largest opposition party that secures at least 10 per cent of the total seats in the 288-member assembly, which translates to 29 seats.

Imtiaz Ali issues clarification after backlash over casting couch remark

After veteran television producer Vinta Nanda slammed ace filmmaker Imtiaz Ali for his recent statement on women’s safety during the 55th IFFI International Film Festival in Goa, the Highway director has responded to the questions posed to him. Following Vinta's allegations, Imtiaz shared that he has been misunderstood. The filmmaker clarified that he hasn’t denied or disputed the numerous harassment cases. While sharing his clarification on his Instagram stories, he said, "Uh oh there seems to be a misunderstanding that I must clarify. I haven't denied or disputed the tons of harassment cases that Vinta ji and many other friends have spoken about; in fact these incidents are deeply disturbing and must be dealt with severely and consistently." “I was pointing out that it is doubly frustrating that the entire film industry, all those hundreds of men on every set who are otherwise remarkably well-mannered, get a bad name for the acts of a few. Of course, terrible things have happened and continue to happen and they are shameful - as an industry and nation, we should have a zero-tolerance policy towards them. We have to uphold our honour together and regardless of gender,” he added. What Imtiaz Ali said at IFFI Imtiaz Ali recalled how Kareena Kapoor felt safe on the sets of ‘Jab We Met’. He shared, “Kareena was ready for the shot and on the top berth in a railway compartment. She had to mumble in her sleep in the scene, and we needed extra lights on the berth. I asked her to come down until the crew members finished putting the light on. She said that I would keep lying there and they could just put the light on.  “Three men went up and put it while standing on the lower berth where she was lying down. I asked her, ‘Are you sure and comfortable?’ She didn’t understand what my problem was. She said, ‘Abhi kon utrega aur phir chadhega!’ And that’s because she felt so safe with those three men hovering over her to put the light on. Nobody looked at her wrong in any way,” Imtiaz added. Vinta Nanda reacted to Imtiaz Ali's statement Nanda posed a note on her Instagram that reads, "“Imtiaz Ali should stop pontificating about what women face in the entertainment industry. Naturally, Kareena Kapoor is safe because she is privileged. And, he surely must know that the casting couch exists! Why has IFFI Goa selected him to speak on behalf of women? Is it to whitewash the truth? If men like him had the courtesy to abstain from speaking on a subject they have no experience about, one will believe that change is indeed taking place.” She wrote in the caption, “It’s shocking to see reports of @imtiazaliofficial making all sorts of statements about women’s issues on an important industry platform like @iffigoa With zero experience, he should have abstained from speaking instead.”

On Salim Khan’s birthday, check out his one-of-a-kind love story with wife Salma

Actor, producer, and legendary screenwriter, Salim Khan celebrates his birthday on November 24. He was recently featured in the docu-series ‘Angry Young Men’ which offered an insight into his life as a person in showbiz, a husband to Salma Khan, and a father to superstar Salman Khan and his siblings Arbaaz, Sohail, Alvira, and Arpita. On his special day, we look at his and Salma’s love story.  Salim Khan and Salma Khan’s love story  In the first episode of ‘Angry Young Men’, Salim Khan recalls his early days of romance with Salma. He reminisced, “I could see her from my balcony. It started with us exchanging glances. She was about 17 years old in 1959 and I was 24. We used to meet in the evenings in the nearby lanes. Then her family pressurised Salma to either marry me or someone of their choice. Under those circumstances, I got married in 1964. In 1965, Salman was born. We didn't have much money and I was worried about work. So how would we manage? Since I needed money, I accepted anything. I did cigarette ads, clothing, shirts, I did everything.” Salim Khan and his relationship with Helen Salim fell in love with Helen, who is still considered one of the best dancers in Bollywood. Sharing his take on the changing dynamics within the family, Salim said, "I sat all the kids down and discussed it with them. I told them, ‘You won’t understand it now, but you will get it when you’re older. I am in love with Helen Aunty, and I know you can’t love her as much as you love your mother, but I want the same respect for her.'” His younger son Arbaaz revealed in the docu-series, "My mother never influenced us to think or say anything against our father. She had her troubles, but she never influenced us to think, ‘Your dad is like this,’ or, ‘This is what he is doing.’ Never."  'Angry Young Men', produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, was released on August 20 on Amazon Prime Video. The docuseries, executive produced by Salman Khan, Salma Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti, marks the directorial debut of Namrata Rao. It features personal narrations from Salim-Javed and insights from notable figures in Indian cinema.

Bhumi Pednekar: ‘I feel more safe and protected when I am on a film set’

Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali shared their thoughts on women's safety and Indian cinema at the 55th International Film Festival of India, Goa. Considering the power of cinema and how it can influence society and especially the young minds of the nation, the 55th International Film Festival India 2024 organized a panel discussion on women’s safety and Indian cinema. The panel also included Khushboo Sundar, and actress Suhasini Maniratnam and was moderated by Vani Tripathi Tikoo. Bhumi Pednekar feels safe on a film set While the conversation revolved around the portrayal of women on-screen and the safety of women in the workplace, especially on the film set, Bhumi pointed out how she found a safe environment while working on her debut film and all the following films after that. Bhumi Pednekar said, “My debut film was really very special because the film truly questions the status quo. Being born into a family that was fairly liberal, until I started working, I did not know about the sexism that exists in the workplace. Of course, my father was against my decision of joining the film industry because he felt it’s a big bad world. I wish he knew that the world of cinema and our film industry is really a great place to work. I feel more safe and protected when I am on a film set than anywhere outside.” Imtiaz Ali shares his take on the casting couch While the casting couch was also spoken about during the session, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who is known for crafting powerful female characters in his films, pointed out an interesting perspective.  Imtiaz Ali said, “One cannot increase the opportunity for themselves by compromising or giving in to the casting couch. There is no assurance that one will get a project based on that. Yes, there will be a lot of people who will come to exploit her, but her career might just also be compromised. If a girl can say no and stand up for her self-respect and dignity, that also helps her to earn respect. If a woman is ready to compromise, even I will think twice before taking the person seriously. I, as a director, also have to respect her to cast her. So, one should not be in that delusion that a budding actor can create opportunity by compromising. In reality, I have only seen the opposite of that.”
