The 2014 movie was directed by Sajid Khan and featured Saif Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor and Ritesh Deshmukh in triple roles. It tanked at the box office and was met with unfavourable reviews.
When asked if she was disheartened by the failure, Esha told PTI, "Yes, we all were. Because we worked really hard. A friend told me, 'People who are not from the industry don't realise the amount of hardwork that is put in'. No filmmaker wants to make a flop film. A lot of the times, it is the destiny of a movie."
Post 'Humshakals', the actress did not have any project until 'Rustom', which is set for release later this month.
Agreeing that her career slowed down post 'Humshakals', the 30-year-old actress said, "My first year itself I did three films, so I think it did (take my career backward). But it does to everyone, whether it's the director or Saif or any actor involved. What matter is what you do afterwards."
The 'Jannat 2' star said she was getting offers in the meanwhile but refused many as those films were not high on content.
"I was getting a lot of films, but either there was a lot of money and not a good film or they were not the type I wanted to do. I didn't want to go into any kind of films, which I, myself, wouldn't want to watch.
"There are lots of ways to make money but what's the point of doing a bad film? When 'Rustom' came, I was happy.
And now this year looks really good. I am waiting for Rustom and confident it will connect with the audience," she said.
'Rustom', also starring Akshay Kumar and Ileana D'Cruz, hits theatres on August 12.
