Age matters

For someone who always ends up playing the father or the elder brother in his films, Sachin Khedekar is quite young at heart. In fact, he says that if given a chance, he would love to relive his teenage years. Gearing up for the release of five projects, where he will again play much older characters, the actor talks to CS about his acting experiments:

Who: Sachin Khedekar
What: Talking about his filmy experiments
Where: At his Andheri residence

Love aaj kal
Teenage years are the best. I still remember all my crushes and infatuations. Back then, falling in love was an adventure. It had a thrill of its kind. Writing all those love letters, scribbling notes on books and walls, sending messages via friends, was so much fun. Proposing a girl and telling her that you loved her was a Herculean task. Unfortunately now, all that you need to do is to forward a romantic sms. I would love to bring back those days and give our youngsters a taste of what it meant to fall in love.

Age old problem
Unfortunately, I don't get to play these romantic roles. In fact, I end up playing characters double my age. I have being essaying the father or the elder brother since the last 10 years. I was only 30 then (laughs). I guess our film industry has always had that herd mentalityu00a0-- once you play a character that becomes a hit, you are inundated with similar roles. In spite of having proved myself, I am still struggling to get a longer role in an A-list film. Sixteen years ago I ventured into television because I felt that actors like me had scope with serials like Imtihaan, Sailaab etc. But I have realised that in our films, there is no role for actors in their 30s. Only young boys and girls and dadas and dadis can act in our movies. Unfortunately, TV too has caught up with this trend. Even after being around for so long, I still have to get my due as an actor.

Sham shame
I am happy to be a part of regional cimena. But in spite of good scripts, regional films lack the funds. In Bollywood, you'll find monstrous budgets but no original scripts; and that is why the concept of remakes and sequels is now becoming popular here. Lately films in Bollywood are only being made to woo the stars. I always hear people saying that the director is the captain of the ship. But on the sets, it is the big stars who call the shots. All that the director does is to make the star feel special, get his shots right and then pray that he/she will show up on time the next day. It's all a sham.
