With a name like Aditya Raj Kapoor and his celebrated father's genes, there is no surprise that Shammi Kapoor's son, and Raj Kapoor's nephew, is doing something as flamboyant as it is wildly romantic. The erstwhile actor (in a handful of forgettable movie roles), former businessman and impassioned biker is on a 'Quest.' A plan to circumnavigate the globe over the next eight to 10 months, riding solo on a Bonneville Triumph.
This breathtaking example of not going gentle into the night by the soft spoken, spiritually inclined product of Sanawar, who only recently turned 60, was given an emotional flag this week with many from the Kapoor clan and industry gathering at the Prithvi Theatre, to bless the ambitious and challenging enterprise.
Starting with his wife who has often accompanied him on his earlier motorcycle adventures, to mother Neelam Kapoor, cousins Randhir and Kunal (the sons of his uncles Raj and Shashi), to actor Jackie Shroff (who appears to be the rider's perennial lucky mascot), they were all there, to bid him bon voyage and Godspeed.
And given how computer savvy the late Shammi Kapoor was (he was one of the pioneers of the internet in India, deeply interested in cyber space), no surprises either that Quest is being featured across social media and those interested can follow the magical mystery tour of discovery around the globe, on a minute-to-minute basis online.
As someone who has followed the dashing, middle-aged cowboys adventures, almost from their inception, what can we say but 'Salut' and 'Godspeed'. And sign that off with a resounding 'Yahoo'...
