Exactly a week after Udta Punjab fell prey to piracy, cyber crime sleuths have made a breakthrough in the case. A Delhi-based man identified as Dipak Kumar has been arrested for leaking the film online just two days before its theatrical release. Sources informed hitlist that more people are involved in the piracy.

The makers of the Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer had registered an FIR last Wednesday with the cyber crime cops after approximately 40 minutes of the movie footage made its way online with ‘for censor’ written on the top left corner. On some websites, the entire uncut movie was available. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Copyright Act. A source says, “Dipak Kumar is one of the links in the Udta Punjab piracy case and now that the cyber cell has tracked him down, others involved cannot escape the dragnet for too long.”

Police sources said the arrested person has no links with the Censor Board, which some blamed for the online leak, given that they were locked in a bitter battle with the makers over censorship.
The makers remained unavailable for comment.

A media statement released by the cyber crime cell read: “During investigation, it was revealed that website aalzmovies.in had uploaded the said link on its website. A team (of Mumbai police) visited New Delhi and adjoining areas, and after diligent efforts, the owner, Mr Dipak Kumar, was traced. He was summoned to the cyber police station, Mumbai, and after thorough investigation, his active role in the crime was revealed. He is arrested and investigation is in progress.”
