Buzz about the third instalment of the Munnabhai series has been on for the last two years. Director Rajkumar Hirani has even gone on record stating that the film will go on floors once Sanjay Dutt, the lead actor of the franchise, completes his prison term as the scripting process is underway. But writer-director Subhash Kapoor, who was roped in to develop the story of Munnabhai's third instalment, has a different version to offer.

"The script isn't ready," says Kapoor, dismissing rumours of it having already been fleshed out. He says that he has not a discussion with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra to start working on the script after Sanjay went to jail last year on charges of illegal arms possession in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. "So, I have not put the idea into script. I don't know when I will start or when the film is expected to roll," he adds.
Talks about Munnabhai 3 have resurfaced as Dutt is currently out on a 30-day parole to be with his daughter, Iqra, who will undergo a nose surgery and was photographed with Chopra outside his house. As per reports, the actor will be a free bird by the end of this year and while it was speculated that this sequel could be Dutt's first film after he comes out of jail, the wait might just get longer.
"I have started working on the script of a sequel to my Jolly LLB (2013) instead. I should complete the script by the end of this year and take it on floors in 2016. Shooting will also take me a few months and I would be busy till it releases. I can't confirm if and when I will start writing the third film of the Munnabhai series," Kapoor signs off. Hirani was not available for comment.
