While Abhishek Kapoor's film gets off to a good start, 'Zila Ghaziabad' fizzles in its first weekend

'Kai Po Che!' rakes in Rs 16 crore in its opening weekend

Last weekend two films released at the box office and while Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che has managed to win over the critics and audience alike, Vinod Bachchan’s Zila Ghaziabad has proved to be a disappointing fare. The collections however are average.u00a0

The weekend collections of Kai Po Che are Rs 16.21 crore with Friday being Rs 3.73 crore, Saturday being Rs 5.56 crore and Sunday being Rs 6.91 crore. While Zila Ghaziabad stands at R 10.05 crore in its first weekend with Friday being Rs 3.35 crore, Saturday being Rs 3.03 crore and Sunday being Rs 3.67 crore. Meanwhile, the first week collections of Murder 3 are close to Rs 17 crore and Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story are Rs 2.33 crore. The second weekend for both the films turned out to extremely dismal.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan says, “It is a mixed week as Zila Ghaziabad caters to the masses while Kai Po Che caters to the classes. Both the films have their own audience and Zila is a film for the frontbenchers that have preferred the film to Kai Po Che. The numbers are not as good as the investors would have liked but Kai Po Che is doing well and is a plus film.”

Trade expert Amod Mehra points out, “Kai Po Che has done well and 95 per cent of its collections are from the multiplex. The film is doing very well in Mumbai, the South and Mysore and is okay across the rest of the country. The film opened to decent collections and jumped on Saturday and Sunday. It had a handsome weekend and the reviews helped the film even more.”

Mehra adds that though the cost of the film is very high, the second weekend collections have to be taken into consideration to declare it a hit. “Zila Ghaziabad on the other hand is a classic example of taking the audience for granted,” he adds.
