If life has kept you preoccupied and you haven't had the time to fix your Valentine's Day plans, or if you finally mustered up the courage to ask your crush out but don't want to opt for the usual ‘dinner and a movie' date, then look no further. mid-day's senior reporters, editors and lensmen, who have documented the city for over three decades, let you in on how you can make the day memorable, Mumbai-style.

Whatever floats your boat

Hemal Ashar, News Features Editor, draws our attention to the viewing gallery at Dadar Chowpatty, a great spot for selfies and special moments. "A neat ‘n' clean space dotted with numerous benches, it offers a view of the sea with the Bandra Worli Sea Link, silhouetted against the sky," says Ashar. We'd hate for the date to end abruptly, so why not extend it with a walk at Narali Baug, or the iconic Shivaji Park?

Picture-perfect

Those who want to head out of the city, for a mid-week getaway, should consider Tiger Point - for the fresh air and views. This recommendation comes from Photo Editor Ashish Rane, our reliable in-house lensman, who calls it the perfect backdrop for romance and great conversation. "If you stand at Lonavala's Tiger Point and just take in the ambience, it puts a lot into perspective." This certainly goes beyond the usual flowers and trinkets.

A walk to remember

If you work or study in south Mumbai, or even visit the area once in a while, it is impossible to miss the gargantuan Oval Maidan. Associate Editor Fiona Fernandez, a heritage expert, recommends a simple walk at the ground. "Walk around the expansive Oval Maidan at sundown to gaze at some of the splendid UNESCO heritage marvels like the Art Deco buildings, Rajabai Tower and High Court that come to life since they are stunningly lit in the evening," Fernandez says. You can always try to impress your date with trivia about these architectural marvels, or read off the informative plaques on site, which give passersby a glimpse into their history. "Head to any of the quiet, classic eateries along Causeway or Apollo Bunder for dinner," Fernandez adds.

Here comes the sun

For those who want to begin their Valentine's celebrations at daybreak, with an adventurous sunrise amid nature, check out Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The Shilonda trail makes for an intimate and meaningful exploration, says Assistant Editor Ranjit Jadhav, who covers wildlife and the environment. "This trail takes you to a water body, through an enchanting forest full of exotic butterflies and insects." For those with trekking experience, Jadhav recommends the Highest Point Trail.
