It is cancer awareness month, and we've found a community to bolster those affected directly or indirectly by cancer. Here is where and how to get the help you need.

Vcare

This NGO has tied up with several hospitals to provide services such as counselling, accommodation, medication and emotional support to patients and their family. They offer a variety of interventions and programmes
including bereavement support, patient and financial assistance.

Protect your Mom

This Asia-wide endeavour organises breast cancer awareness campaigns in schools and colleges. It pushes children to pester their mothers to get a regular health check up and take a breast cancer test. You can organise an event with them and involve other social clubs too, as well as help research and study about breast cancer. It also runs a Hair for Hope campaign where people can donate hair to make wigs for cancer patients.

St Judes India Child Care Centre

This network of 39 centres across nine cities provides support to children below the age of 15 battling cancer, and their caregivers. Their services also cover children over 15 years of age, who have had a relapse. They specifically provide accommodation for people from outside the city and the underprivileged. They provide ration every week to the children and their caregivers, arrange transport for therapies and consultation, provide insurance assistance, and education for students who have to skip school, along with career counselling.
