Mary Kom is an Indian boxer who has participated in Olympics and she is the only woman in the world to win the World Amateur Boxing Championship a record six times.

Mary Kom is the only woman in the world to win a medal in each of the seven World Championships. Mary Kom is fondly nicknamed 'Magnificient Mary' as she is the only Indian woman to have qualified for the 2012 Olympics, after which she won a Bronze medal for the country.

Mary Kom was born in Kangathei village in Churachandpur district of Manipur in Northeast India.

Mary Kom's parents were tenant farmers who worked in Jhum fields, she had a poor upbringing and helped her parents in day-to-day activities. Mary Kom's passion for boxing came from watching her father, who was a semi-professional wrestler in her younger days.

According to reports, Mary Kom first met her husband in 2000 after her luggage was stolen while travelling by train for a sports meet. While on her way to the National Games in Punjab she met Onler who was studying law at Delhi University. Onler was the president of the North East students body and helped Mary Kom with getting back her luggage. Thus they became friends and thereafter started dating each other.
