Tied 1-1 in regulation period, the teams were locked 4-4 in shoot-out and India won 1-0 in sudden death with Rani Rampal scoring the winner.

Coming into the match with a band-aid above her left eye, following a cut in the last match against Netherlands, Rani was the star with one field goal and two in the shoot out.

India will meet Japan, who edged out hosts Belgium 4-2 in the shoot-out after being tied 1-1 at regulation period. Japan are ranked 10th in the world, while India are No 13, but the Indians beat Japan for the bronze medal at the Asian Games last year.
