Spain's David Ferrer rued a pair of tie-break meltdowns which denied him his first ever Grand Slam final at the Australian Open yesterday.

Ferrer led Britain's Andy Murray by a set before being taken to a second-set tiebreak, which he lost 2-7, and slumped by the same score in another breaker for the decisive fourth set.

"Maybe I had my chance in the last games of the fourth set. But he served good. And in the tie-break, both times I started really bad," said Ferrer, who ousted an injured Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals a day earlier.
