Air India, Central Railway are rink kings

Air India and Central Railway emerged victorious in the men's and women's categories respectively in the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana ufffd 34th Victor D'Mello Annual Floodlit Rink Hockey Tournament.


Air India won the championship in grand style defeating Indian Navy 5-4. As many as nine goals were scored in the finale which was witnessed by a packed house at theu00a0WCG courts.

AI's Shivendra Singh stole the limelight scoring three goals getting great support from Dhanraj Pillay and VS Vinaya who contributed with a goal each.

Indian Navy was relentless in their approach giving a tough fight as Sajeet Lakra netted two goals with Rana Pratap and Ved Prakash chipping in with a goal each.

At half time, the match was evenly poised with AI leading 2-1. Shivendra hit the all important goal to secure a well deserved victory for his team in the 33rd minute.

Central Railway clinched the women's title beating Freunds 2-1. CR at half time were trailing 0-1, but fought back in the second half scoring two goals and not allowing their opponents to score a single goal.

Bhagyashree Agarwal scored for Freunds in the third minute whereas Renjita and Sarita Minz scored for Central Railway.u00a0
