Karm Mulchandani of Vibgyor High School (Goregaon) was a little upset about the delayed start of their match. The opposing team Thakur Vidya Mandir (Kandivli) reached the ground over 45 minutes late for the boys' U-16 Div III match of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday. The match which was scheduled to kick-off at 8.30am, was delayed for 45 minutes as the Kandivli boys reached the venue little.
However, striker Karm, 15, was very excited when the game finished because he had scored two quick goals in the first half as Vibgyor handed Thakur Vidya Mandir a 2-0 defeat. Karm's teammate Wabhab Yadav played the perfect supporting role by providing both assists. "We were upset because we had to wake up at 5:30am to make it in time here but our opponents arrived late. Our coach Yasin sir sportingly agreed to play, and I'm glad he did, because we won," Karm told mid-day after the game.
The Vibgyor lads showed positive intent right from the start and found success in the 16th minute when Wabhab broke down the left and chipped across for Karm, who trapped the ball and beat Thakur Vidya Mandir's goalkeeper Sujal Mudaliar with a perfect right-footer to the left corner. Four minutes later, Wabhab again found Karm ideally positioned outside the rival box.
Karm controlled the ball, moved towards his left and unleashed a rasping left-footed drive again to the goalkeeper's left corner. In another match, Cathedral & John Connon easily beat Arya Vidya Mandir (Bandra) 3-0 in a girls U-16 Div-I League tie. Aalika Pabaney, Saiya Mehta and Kyra Aggrawal scored for
Cathedral.
