Christine Nazareth, 13, played a key role in helping Canossa School (Andheri) play out a goalless draw with Mary Immaculate Group School (Borivli) in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised girls U-16 Div I inter school football tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday.
Striker Christine, who is the main goalscorer for the school, having scored six goals in four matches (two each in MSSA and DSO tournaments), put in an extra effort as she had the additional responsibility of lending support to the defence, which was under a lot of pressure from the rival attackers.
"I am always willing and happy to give my best for the team. I am basically a forward and can also play as midfielder, but I am prepared to adjust and play in any position according to the plans of our coach Agnel Sir. "Today, I had to do a lot of running and it was tiring. But, in the end, it was satisfying to get a draw which has helped the team qualify for the knockout play-off," Christine told mid-day.
