Manchester: Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal on Monday said the club's fans might have left their FA Cup tie against Sheffield United on Saturday because of traffic concerns.

Thousands of home fans left the stadium and some sections of the crowd even booed the players until Wayne Rooney came up with the winner via a penalty conversion in the 93rd minute.

"Maybe (because) we haven't scored. Maybe the traffic. There are many reasons why someone might leave early. When I was looking at matches to analyse an opponent, I have done that also," van Gaal was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I leave the stadium five minutes before. You never know what the reason is. You can be very negative. But we are in the next round."

The 'Red Devils' did not manage a shot on target until the 69th minute in their 1-0 win against Sheffield but van Gaal said the supporters should be pleased now that the team is in the next round.

"We have won two matches in a row out of a bad period. You have to be happy as a Manchester United fan that we have won two matches in a row and we are in the next round," he said.
