The World Cup 2019 in England and Wales has been a record-breaking affair with various records being broken throughout the league stage. As we come to the end of the league stage of the World Cup, the four pre-tournament favourites, India, Australia, England and New Zealand, have expectedly played at the top of their game and have leap-frogged into the semi-finals.
The tournament started with hosts England facing an AB de Villiers'-less South Africa and the match turned out to be a one-sided game with England registering an easy104-run win. India started their campaign in style beating South Africa by a comfortable six-wicket margin, thanks to Rohit Sharma's first of the five tons in this year's tournament. India's only loss of the tournament was against hosts England but Virat Kohli and his team rallied to end on top of the league table.
Australia, bolstered by the inclusion of two of their best batsman, Steve Smith and David Warner, played against tournament minnows Afghanistan and ended up with a dominating seven-wicket win in their first World Cup game. Australia finished second behind India.
It was a roller coaster ride for one of the pre-tournament favourites and hosts England who were in danger of missing out on a semis berth. However, a victory over India put their campaign back on track and to the delight of the home fans, England made it to the semi-final finishing third in the league table.

The tournament was expected to be dominated by the batsman before the series started, but the bowlers had the last word during the league stage with multiple hattricks and five-wicket hauls that added the much-needed zing in the series and the teams with better bowling attacks ended up winning more matches.
