Shane Warne's dramatic weight loss and new grooming regime has got him more attention that what he had bargained for, with family and friends of the cricket star hitting back at jibes made about his "metrosexual makeover".
Commenting on some of the insults made about his son's transformation, Keith Warne snapped: "Well, I think he looks great. People should leave Shane and his image alone", reports the Mirror.
Asked whether he thought his son's girlfriend Liz Hurley was to blame for this remarkable turnaround, the pensioner - speaking from his sprawling beachside home in Melbourne - added: "I just don't want to say any more."
Other friends and family last night also retaliated against jibes about the once beefy spin genius's waxwork-like appearance, finely tweezered eyebrows and 28in waist.
Shane's close mate, Aussie TV presenter Karl Stefanovick, said: "It's very harsh.
"The people of Great Britain are jealous they don't look as good as Warnie... Good on you Warnie - don't listen to those prudes. He's obviously feeling a bit of pressure and I think that's really sad."
The retired cricketer's brother Jason, who runs Shane's charitable foundation, also batted away criticism, saying: "I managed Shane for a long time but I don't any more.
"I like to keep out of everything and think it for the best I keep out of the speculation." Last week we revealed the secrets behind Shane's altered appearance.
Shane himself has taken to his microblogging site to defuse claims Liz made him diet. He wrote: "I have always taken pride in my appearance and an attack on [Liz] is unfair. I'm proud of how I look and worked my butt off for four months."
