Two young Mumbai bowlers - medium pacer Minad Manjrekar and left arm spinner Dhrumil Matkar - have been chosen for the 'IDBI Federal Life Insurance - Frank Tyson Scholarship', instituted in memory of the former England pacer, who died on September 27.

Manjrekar represents the Mumbai Under-19 squad, while Matkar, a left-arm spinner who can also bat, had put in match winning performances to help Mumbai enter the knockout stage of the C K Nayudu tournament. Matkar is currently a part of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad, which is playing against Gujarat at the Wankhede Stadium.

The scholarship, instituted in the name of Tyson who unearthed many bowlers for Mumbai in the early 1990s through a bowler-specific scheme, is worth Rs 2 lakh per player to help in their education and training, a media release said today.

A former protege of Tyson, Vighnesh Shahane, CEO, IDBI Federal Life Insurance said, "Frank Tyson's contribution to Mumbai cricket is simply commendable. While he took only 76 wickets for England, collectively his products like Salil Ankola, Abey Kuruvilla, Paras Mhambrey, Sairaj Bahutule, Nilesh Kulkarni and me included performed consistently for Mumbai.

"It gives me immense pleasure to have instituted this scholarship in his memory to celebrate his genius. I wish the young lads the best for their cricketing career ahead," he added.
