Ajay Shirke feels BCCI president had other ideas post the IPL spot-fixing, and probably chose a harder way to proceed despite his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan being involved

Pune: Less than a year ago, the then BCCI treasurer Ajay Shirke and secretary Sanjay Jagdale had resigned in the wake of the Indian Premier League spot fixing saga. The president had other ideas though, despite the name of his son-in-law being involved. Perhaps, he chose the harder way to go, one would have to assess.

"It's a really sad day. Although I am not connected to the Board now, we have all worked for that Board at some time. To have the Supreme Court of the land say that it's nauseating to see the president in his position is really sad," Shirke told mid-day.

"It's a scenario that could have been avoided. Not only would it have saved the Board from some unnecessary negativity and disgrace, it could have helped Mr Srinivasan himself to save his career. But he thought otherwise," Shirke added.

Shirke also pointed out that Srinivasan is not the only one who is in the wrong. "When I resigned, a very senior member, not Srinivasan, said that I am doing this to get media applause. If it's coming from someone who has served the Board for over 30 years, if the intellectuality is compromised to such level, what can one say!" he added.
