Sunil Gavaskar has never failed to write his fortnightly column which has been published by the Sunday edition of this newspaper among other publications for over two decades, but his appointment as president of the Indian cricket board by the Supreme Court yesterday has caused him to stop writing at least for the time being.

Yesterday, this newspaper received a call from his Professional Management Group office to inform us that Gavaskar's column which would have been published on Sunday, will not be sent.

The Supreme Court order stated: "Mr Gavaskar will not work as a Commentator during this period as an Interim President of the BCCI in relation to IPL matters and he will be adequately compensated for his loss of income for this period by the BCCI. The compensation amount will be determined after the Court resumes hearing on 16th April, 2014."

It is learnt that Gavaskar will not air his views to a news channel he is contracted to.
