New Zealand fans here for the World Cup are eager to send a message back home to their people who have been traumatised by the recent earthquake that rocked Christchurch.
They put up a banner that read: 'Kia Kaha Chch'. "It means stand strong Christchuch," John Lee, who joined his friends in India only a week before the devastating earthquake hit NZ on Tuesday, told MiD DAY. "It's the biggest Kiwiland tragedy in 80 years. Things are pretty bad there. We hope we can make a difference and people watching this match back home will read our message," said Lisa Tai, another Kiwi fan.
Girls just wanna have fun!
The BCCI's initiative to let school children watch non-India World Cup matches for free was well received here yesterday. There was a good turn-out for the Australia versus New Zealand game at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha.
While the boys went gaga over Brett Lee and Ricky Ponting (the most recognised cricketers amongst the Aussies), the girls admitted ignorance. "We don't follow cricket a lot, so we don't know the players. We are here for fun. It's like a picnic for us," said Class VII student Prajakta Holegaonkar.
