Batting first, Gujarat managed 126-9 thanks to a 47-run partnership for the second wicket between Rajul Bhatt (31) and Rajdeep Darbar (31) after Zaheer Khan (2-14) gave Mumbai an early breakthrough.
Chasing 127, openers Aditya Tare (55) and Kevin Almeida (32) got off to a flying start. The duo shared a 57-run opening stand. The hosts chased the target in 18.3 overs.
Tare told the media: "We bowled and fielded brilliantly which helped us restrict them to 126. In T20 cricket, any team will be happy chasing 127."
On Mumbai's overall dismal performance this season, he said: "If you look at the overall season, our bowlers have always done the job for us. It's the batting unit this needs to step up."
