Mumbai once again failed to crack the winning code against arch-rivals Maharashtra in this season
Mumbai once again failed to crack the winning code against arch-rivals Maharashtra in this season.
Yesterday, the hosts slumped to a 30-run defeat on VJD in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 West Zone league match at the Wankhede Stadium.
It was the same venue where Mumbai lost to their state rivals in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final and were again beaten in the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-dayers in Rajkot last month.
Yesterday's loss will dent Mumbai's chances severely to progress to the knockout round. Maharashtra is now level with Mumbai in eight points with one game in hand.
Mumbai bowlers found it tough to break the opening partnership of Harshad Khadiwale (47) and Vijay Zol (48) as the duo put on a 90-run stand to help Maharashtra post 139-2 in 18 overs.
The target was revised to 144 after the match was reduced to an 18-over affair due to an electric failure to one of the floodlights.
Mumbai skipper Zaheer Khan impressed with figures of 2-20 but other bowlers failed to apply breaks to Maharashtra's run spree.
Mumbai, in reply, could manage only 113-7 as Maharashtra bowlers managed to grab wickets at regular intervals. Shrikant Mundhe was the pick of the bowlers with 3-25.
