Afghanistan spinner Zahir Khan has been roped in by the Lancashire cricket club for the ongoing 2018 English county season. The 19-year-old became the fourth Afghanistan cricketer after Rashid Khan (Sussex), Mohammad Nabi (Leicestershire) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Hampshire) also joined this year's county season.
Reflecting on his inclusion in the team, the bowler said that he is excited to join the team and hopes to make a significant contribution to the club. 'I'm really excited to be signing for Lancashire for the rest of the campaign. It's always been an ambition of mine to play county cricket in England and test myself against some of the world's best players. I can't wait to get started now,' ESPNcricinfo.com quoted Khan, as saying.
"I have heard a lot of good things about Lancashire and Old Trafford from Jos Buttler when I played with him at the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and I hope to make a significant contribution during my stay here,' he added.
Khan holds an impressive first-class record of bagging 34 wickets at an economy rate of 3.54. In T20 matches, he has scalped 15 wickets at an economy rate of 7.51. Though Khan is yet to make his international debut, he was a part of the Afghanistan Test squad that played the one-off historic match against India, earlier this year.
