A gallant Yusuf Pathan revealed that the sluggish nature of the surface and situation of the match did not hamper his mindset during his match-winning knock of 59 that helped India pip South Africa to a 2-1 series lead here at Newlands yesterday.
Pathan came into bat with India at 93-5, requiring a further 128 runs for victory. "When I play my shots, everything becomes easy. The wicket becomes easy, opponents go on the back foot, and fielding captain goes on the defensive. I took advantage of that situation. I sensed SA's fear and that helped me a lot," he told reporters.u00a0 The 28-year old credited the contributions of Raina, Harbhajan, Zaheer and Nehra. "It is a team effort, I can't take credit for the victory. I always play my shots, it doesn't matter what the situation is. That is my strong point. I wish I was there till the end to see the team to victory. I was shattered when I got out.
However, these are the sort of mistakes I can learn from," he added.
