The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to provide coaches, team support staff to the new states which are set to debut in the Ranji Trophy and senior tournaments of the Indian cricket board. For the new states coming into the fold, the BCCI has also agreed to foot all expenses related to their domestic season.
The six new states from NorthEast (Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh) and Uttarakhand are set to enter BCCI's big league and will be part of the Plate group. Bihar too will be making a comeback after being kept out of competitive cricket for almost 18 years.
While the officials of the NorthEast states met the BCCI General Manager Saba Karim at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai yesterday to discuss their difficulties, the Consensus Committee of the BCCI met the Uttarakhand representatives in Dehradun for the first time on Tuesday to discuss the way forward.
"The BCCI has informed us that they will provide us with coaches and support staff for the senior team. They will also send selectors to help us pick a good team. All other expenses that we will require for the season would be met by the BCCI," Naba Bhattacharjee, General Secretary, Meghalaya Cricket Association, told mid-day yesterday.
