Wadekar remembered April 1, 1971 when his Indian team were on the field for the opening day's play of the fourth Test in that historic series at Barbados.

"I can never forget that Garry Sobers brought a cake on the field of play just before the toss and asked me to cut it. It was a pleasant surprise from the opposition team captain. I won the toss, but the Test was drawn," said Wadekar yesterday.

Sobers delighted
Sobers was delighted when informed that Wadekar greatly appreciated the gesture and said: "Oh yes, I remember it. It was nice of him to remember this incident after so many years.

I don't have fond memories of this Test, but certainly remember that I arranged a cake. I rate him (Wadekar) very highly. Convey my best wishes to him."

India's Test opener Murali Vijay too was born on April 1. Ditto David Gower and Stephen Fleming from NZ.
