A 10-year-old girl in England tried to sell her grandmother on auction site eBay with dozens of people putting in bids that eventually got up to nearly $40,000 (Rs 19 lakh).

It all started after 61-year-old Marian Goodall had returned home from the hospital and was feeling a bit down.

Goodall's granddaughter Zoe apparently was getting annoyed at having to help her grandmother all the time, so she came up with a way to cheer them both up.

Zoe listed her grandmother as "annoying and moaning a lot" and also "very cuddly and loves word searches".

Zoe's father says it was all a joke and that Zoe just wanted someone to help look after her grandma.

He says, "It was really quite sweet. I didn't tell her off and it certainly brought a smile to my mother's face."

eBay took the listing down because it "does not allow the listing of any human being on the site".
