Due to heavy rain in Saurashtra & South Gujarat, a flood-like situation occurred. Although the situation initially improved, state is experiencing heavy rain.

In the 24 hours ending at 6 am on 29 July, Gujarat experienced rainfall across 116 talukas. Nadiad, in the Kheda district of Central Gujarat, recorded the highest rainfall of 118 mm, nearly 4.6 inches.

Usually, 50 mm of rainfall, which is about 2 inches, can lead to waterlogging if it occurs within in short period. However, several areas in Nadiad were inundated after receiving up to 4.6 inches of rainfall.

People were seen wading through the waterlogged streets even as the downpour continued its onslaught.

Gujarat has recorded its highest rainfall so far this season. Heavy rains have caused many rivers to overflow, resulting in flood-like situations in several districts.

Thousands of people have been evacuated to safe places, with about one lakh people affected by the floods.

Apart from Gujarat, heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh have increased the water levels of several reservoirs. Madhya Pradesh and Odisha received moderate to heavy rains in the last 24 hours.

Central Maharashtra, South Rajasthan, North-West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, parts of Jharkhand, and the Ganga region in West Bengal also experienced heavy rainfall in some areas.
