A woman was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly suffocating and killing her five-year-old daughter in Maharashtra's Akola city, police said, according to the PTI.
Based on a complaint lodged by the child's father, the police arrested Vijaya Ravi Amle (31) in connection with the death of her daughter in June, an official said, reported the PTI.
Kishori Ravi Amle was found dead in her house in Akola city on June 2, he said.
The police at the time registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for post-mortem, inspector Dhananjay Sayre of Khadan police station Dhananjay Sayre said.

The post-mortem report, which arrived recently, revealed that the child had been suffocated to death, he said.
The woman allegedly suffocated the girl while she was asleep and later pretended to be unaware of the circumstances of the death, the official said.
The accused woman has been booked under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and a probe is underway to find out the reason for the killing, he added.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife who jumped to death from the fourth floor of a building in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Monday, according to the PTI.
The police on Sunday arrested Karan Solanki under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code for the incident that took place in Dombivili town, assistant police inspector Dattatreya Sanap of the Manpada police station said.
Pooja Solanki (19) jumped to death from her sister-in-law's apartment on the fourth floor of a building in Sagarli village on the morning of September 1, he said.
The victim took the extreme step after the accused objected to her chatting with another man on Instagram, the official said.
The woman's parents subsequently lodged a police complaint against the accused and another man identified as Gopal Shinde for driving their daughter to suicide, he said.
As per the first information report (FIR), Shinde had allegedly harassed the victim by sending her messages on Instagram, while her husband quarreled with her about these chats, the official said.
