In Delhi's Ashok Nagar, a man has been apprehended for possessing 162 kg of firecrackers in defiance of a pollution ban imposed by the Delhi government.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey revealed that a tip-off led to the arrest of shopkeeper Sanjeev Jain, aged 43, who had amassed a significant quantity of firecrackers with the intent to sell them.

A raid near Hanuman Fatak in Ashok Nagar resulted in the seizure of 162 kg of firecrackers. Tirkey emphasized that Jain's motivation was to secure a substantial profit from his investment in the firecrackers, highlighting the potential danger such a large quantity posed to the densely populated area.

Jain faces charges under section 188 (disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant) and 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The seized firecrackers have been taken into police possession.

The Delhi government has implemented a comprehensive ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers within the city until January 1, 2024, as part of efforts to control pollution.
