Airline passenger said she had no idea that the bullets were in her bag
A 27-year-old married woman was arrested from terminal III of the Indira Gandhi International airport after live ammunition was found in her possession. A senior police official said the woman was identified as Neha Tomar. An FIR against her was lodged at the Indira Gandhi International airport police station under section 25/54/59 of the IPC.
The officer said that Neha is the wife of a Ghaziabad-based businessman. She reached the airport at around 4 pm on February 6. She had booked a Kingfisher Airlines ticket to Bhubaneshwar. Her flight number was IT-3349. At terminal III when she underwent frisking, ammunition was found inside her bag.
"Live cartridges were wrapped in clothes that were detected by scanning machines. When asked why she was carrying them, she said she had no idea she had them in her bag. She did not have a weapons license," said the police official.
"During interrogation, Neha said a few days back she had gone to get her car repaired in a garage in Ghaziabad along with her two sons. She said her sons might have picked up the ammunitions and wrapped them in the clothes," said the police official. The official said the ammunitions have been sent to the forensic science laboratory.
British Airways flight delayed by 21 hours
British Airways passengers reached London after 21 hours while the actual time flight take between Delhi and London is 7 hours. The flight made an unscheduled stop at Baku airport on Tuesday in Azerbaijan due to an onboard medical emergency. However, authorities at Baku would not let the aircraft leave without a female passenger, who did not have a visa. And the pilot refused to take off with the sick woman.
The ordeal of passengers did not end there. The flight was then diverted to Istanbul reportedly for a change of crew. The harassed and horrid passengers were given no food or water at Istanbul airport. The passengers had to buy their own food. British Airways offered apologies in Delhi for the incident. An airline spokesperson in Delhi said: "The flight had to divert due to a medical emergency onboard. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience our customers faced.u00a0 We hope they appreciate that customer safety will always be our highest priority."
