Vajpayee admitted to AIIMS; condition stable

The condition of former prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was stable, doctors attending on him said.


The condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was admitted to AIIMS last night following respiratory infection and fever, was stable and he will be kept under observation in the hospital for the next three to four days.

"His general medical condition is stable. And he spent a restful night. He is now better and his chest congestion is less," Superintendent of AIIMS D K Sharma said. "He will be under observation for the next three to four days," Sharma said.

He clarified that the 84-year-old BJP leader is not in the ICU and he is admitted in a room adjoining the ICU for security reasons.

"He is breathing normally," Sharma said. Vajpayee is being taken care of by a multi- disciplinary team of doctors, including cardiologists Dr Sampat Kumar and Dr V K Behl, neurologist Dr N B Padma and chest specialist Dr Randeep Guleria.

"Routine tests were conducted on Vajpayee which were normal," Sharma said, adding "currently we are not allowing anyone to meet him except his family members". Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital last night.

The former Prime Minister is also suffering from hypertension and diabetes which needs to be taken care of, Sharma added.
