A 14-year-old-boy was apprehended after creating a fake account using well known model Aanchal Kumar's name, adding friends through the account, and then asking them for money on the pretext that her valuables and cell phone had been lost in Canada.
Aanchal's claim to fame is her participation in the fourth season of the reality television show Bigg Boss some years ago. Aanchal's friend Vikram Ram, the complainant in the case, received an invite from the fake account.
Realising that the account was fake, he set a trap on Wednesday, nabbed the boy, and turned him over to the Chembur police.
Vikram said, "On January 8, I got a request from an e-mail ID which at first glance seemed to be my friend Anchal's. I realised the account was fake. I asked the user to meet me at a mall in Chembur on the pretext of giving him Rs 10,000. I then nabbed him and handed him over to the police."
He added, "The boy is not the only one involved in the plot. I was chatting with the same account, and the user tried to confirm if the "boy has appeared or not" after I handed him over to the police."
Senior Police Inspector Bhimrao Rathod from Chembur police station said, "He was totally unaware of the serious repercussions of his actions. He told us that he did this because he wanted to buy a video game for himself. We have presented him before the Juvenile Justice board and he was taken to a children's home."
The boy was booked under sections of the IT Act as well as for impersonation under the IPC. According to the complainant, the account was created on December 17.The boy's mother said, "My son used to lie that he was going to his friend's house for some project work, and would come home late at night."u00a0
