Noted Bollywood producer-director Ravi Rai is doing wonders in the Marathi film industry. His film Tingya, which was released last year, had won a total of 41 national and international awards and missed just by a few points to Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par (TZP) that was send as India's entry to the Oscars.
Else, Tingya would have been the second Marathi film that would have been nominated for Oscar after Shwas.
Rai, who started his career as an assistant director to Mahesh Bhatt, said, "It should have been Tingya and not TZP for our entry to Oscar." He was in the city recently for the screening of his Marathi film Chanda, which was the official entry for the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF).

Speaking about the Marathi Film industry, Rai said, "I am proud to be a part of it." He added that for India's Oscar entry, there were six films in the fray out of which Marathi directors had directed three of them.
Rai also said that his banner Small Town Boy Production will provide a platform to young talent and will produce a Marathi film every year.
Talking about his film Chanda, Rai said that the movie is based on the autobiography his director Gajendra Ahire. "On an average 39 million girls and women go missing every year in India and Chanda is about these homeless street children and women."
According to Rai, the character of Chanda is real and not imaginary. "She is still alive and works as a prostitute to earn her living," he said. He added that he's dedicating Chanda to those whose life ends on the streets.
