New Delhi: MPs from Shiv Sena, the second largest constituent of ruling NDA, today staged a dharna in Parliament House complex demanding early completion of a coastal road project in Mumbai, which was allegedly held up for want of various clearances from the Centre.

MPs of Shiv Sena from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sat in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue carrying placards and staged a silent protest for early completion of the project to be undertaken by Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

"Shiv Sena MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are holding a silent protest for early completion of the project, which is the need of the hour in view of increased traffic.

"The elevated road along the sea will start from Borivili and end at Nariman Point and will be undertaken by Mumbai Municipal Corporation, which has already submitted its proposal to the Centre, but it is held up for various clearances including that from the Environment Ministry," party leader Sanjay Saut said.

He said the protest is not against the government, but for grant of early clearances to the project. Raut said the project is much-needed in view of increased traffic and growth of Mumbai and should be taken up early. Union Minister Anant Geete, who is also a Shiv Sena MP and a Minister in the government, did not join the protest.
