Shahban Thanawala, the 82-year-old Churchgate resident, who sat on a hunger strike at Azad Maidan on Friday, had to be admitted to hospital on Saturday afternoon after his condition deteriorated.

This paper had carried an article on Friday on his decision to protest against police apathy.
After being swindled of Rs 13 crore and over 150 tolas of gold by his late brother's servants and accountant, Thanawala had demanded that the cops return the belongings they had seized and arrest the accused.
On Saturday morning, when Thanawala reached Azad Maidan, he was already feeling unwell. His advocate Vinod Kashid said, "His condition was not good. He had not taken his medicines."
A few hours into it, Thanawala started shivering and was taken to GT Hospital, but he insisted on being examined by his family doctor. "Thanawala has been advised to eat and take complete bed rest," said his advocate. He, however, is adamant on fighting till justice is delivered. "I have no option," he said.
