Krushnai at Chinchwad is named after Lord Krishna and offers vegetarian cuisine at affordable rates. The costliest dish at this eatery is priced at just Rs 55, which is a steal considering the quality of the food served.

Veg Banjara

Ambience: The restaurant is quite small and lacks fancy ambience. It is divided into two sections, the outdoor section allows you to sit and enjoy the breeze while the indoor section is where to head during chilly nights.

We tried: Based on the recommendation of the manager, we ordered Paneer Tikka (Rs 55) and Paneer 65 (Rs 58) for starters. The Paneer Tikka had all of five tender pieces of paneer in a bed of onions and tomatoes. It tasted delicious thanks to the perfect blend of spices. The Paneer 65 was extra spicy with a very thick gravy made of chopped onions, carrots, capsicum and cabbage. Somehow, the taste of the spices overpowered all other flavours and had us guzzling glass after glass of water.

For the main course, we settled for a much less spicy Paneer Kofta (Rs 51), Veg Banjara (Rs 55) and Veg Pulao (32) with Tandoori Roti (Rs 4.50). The Paneer Kofta tasted sweet but was delectable. It included two huge pieces of kofta stuffed with paneer and fried in corn flour. The gravy was thick and was complemented by the Tandoori Roti. The Veg Banjara consisted of chopped beans, carrots, onion, capsicum and tomato and was just average. The excess oil floating in the bowl was a huge turn-off, but we still preferred it to the Veg Pulao, which was tasty but too oily. The quantity of rice served was enough for two people.

The Pav Bhaji (Rs 27) turned out to be the best dish of the evening and had a perfect balance of spices. To compensate for the excessive oil, perhaps, the quantity of butter in the Pav Bhaji was minimal.

Service: The manager was helpful and informative. As the place was crowded and only three attendants were taking care of all the guests, we had to wait for a while to be served.
