The president of state Wakf board along with his colleagues has been accused of threatening and assaulting the board staff with dire consequences, for failing to gift them a site each of their choice.

Divisional liaison officer, Syed Abdul Hamid has filed a complaint with High Grounds police against the president of the Board, Ahmed Qureshi, general secretary M J Ali and three others for ransacking the office and also threatening the staff with dire consequences.

Hamid alleged that the president and his colleagues are agitated because the Wakf Board Association, which acquired a piece of land for construction of a layout, refused to bow down to their demands and gift them four sites.

"Qureshi and his colleagues had asked for the sites as gifts to them and had warned the association that they would not allow their layout formation at any cost unless their demands were met.

Hamid said that the association comprising of the staff of the Wakf board had purchased three acres of land at Jakkur village in an auction. When the Association did not heed their demands, Qureshi and his colleagues filed a case with the Wakf Tribunal, questioning the auction process.

Fear psychosis
However the tribunal quashed their objection and asked the association to go ahead with plans. An enraged Qureshi barged into the office with his associates, beat up Hamid and threatened to burn down the office.

"They left after ransacking the premises," Hamid alleged. "They are creating fear psychosis among the staff to stop them from going ahead," he added. The High grounds police have filed a case of criminal intimidation against the three, and are investigating.

However, PI Virupakshappa claimed that they have not received any complaint in this regard. Members of the Board were not available foru00a0u00a0comments.
