It is one of those places in Frazer Town you have perhaps noticed while driving past and not really stopped to sample despite the reminiscence it brings of the famous Boney M song by the same name. We suggest stop by, we did and came back with a fuzzy feeling in our tummy.

Ma Baker

It might seem rather small and cheesy by its name, the look even but that we believe is hardly a test of what comes out of the kitchen at Ma Baker. A loaded bakery counter and two small caf ufffd tables is all this place is made up of and don't be too surprised when your choice of dessert comes served in a plastic cup or paper plate.

We were wowed by the options on the counter and the prices alike and knew a dessert filled meal was on the cards. We started with a Pineapple Cake (Rs 40) that was a typical home-baked Pineapple upside down cake baked to perfection with slices of pineapple, heavy with essence.

The cake was spongy on the bite and mildly sweetened and prepared us for the other delights that were coming our way. What came next was most definitely the highlight of our dessert day out, Caramel Pudding (Rs 30).

Inverted and placed straight on the counter out of a modest aluminium dish this one was perfectly set, hardly crumbling on our plate with the top caramelised just right. We bit in and the pudding melted in our mouth leaving behind only a lingering flavour of caramel. The next in the line of this elaborate sweet meal was Chocolate Mousse (Rs 25).

Set in separate cups you can choose from chocolate or strawberry. The mousse was cream filled with a layer of rich dark chocolate on top. In a bite, both the flavours of the dark chocolate and the sweet cream infused to give us a bittersweet creamy feel. The mousse was well worth its price and one of the nicest we have tasted in a while.

The tiny version of the Mud Pie (Rs 25) that we tried next was a tad disappointing and rather crumbly.u00a0 The bakery also offers other options like a Carrot Walnut Cake and a new speciality the Lava Cake, amongst a few snack options like quiches and puffs.

We also spotted a few goodie bags full of macaroons and marshmallows that were all ready to be picked up. As much as the desserts give you your fill, eating at Ma Baker can turn out to be a rather messy experience what with all the paper plates and small tables. We suggest you keep this on your list of dessert pick-up options and dig in the comfort of your home.
