Don't be fooled by its name. Geebees Appetites is not the latest brand of jiggling jellybeans but a small-budget eatery located at Centrium Mall, Kandivli (E).u00a0 Proprietor Gautam Bedi and his wife Anula Longkumer christened their venture by borrowing from owner Gautam's initials (G and B); the word Appetites was later added on as its synonymous with a craving for good food.

The food served here was described as Chinese and North Indian, but we were pleasantly surprised to find Anula paying rich tribute to her Northeastern roots with favourites like Steamed Momos and Thukpa, a noodle soup, which is usually served with chunks of meat.

We started off with a bowl of Vegetarian Thukpa Soup (Rs 110) where the noodles and veggies are served in a spicy broth and made for a great start. The Steamed Chicken Momos (Rs 120) was next up. These came served with a spicy red sauce. The momos were delicious and cooked to perfection with no trace of excess oil. Buoyed by our luck, we decided to test desi waters and ordered for the Fish Koliwada (Rs 160).

Soon, we realised that this catch was best avoided; it was too salty, and carried an odd taste that needed to be washed down with a glass of water. The Jeera Rice (Rs 90) and Murgh Achari (Rs 135) complimented each other but would have done far better without generous amounts of oil that it was prepared with.

The interiors are nothing to write home about. The place is tiny with enough room for a big table that can occupy a large family of six, though it packs in around six tables for groups of two or three people. The waiters are helpful and prompt with the orders, but you might feel a tad stuffy as the restaurant had just one fan that operated at a snail's pace; the two air-conditioners were switched off when we dropped by. Don't be surprised if you are handed a takeaway menu instead of the usual one; the explanation given was that the rates were being revised and hence customers would have to make do with these, temporarily.
