An earthquake of moderate intensity hit the Capital and the surrounding areas on Monday evening.u00a0 The Indian Meteorological Department officials in the city and Chandigarh said the quake measured 5.7 on Richter scale with its epicentre in the Indo-Nepal border region.
There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property However, the US Geological Survey Department put the magnitude of the earthquake at 5.4 and said that epicentre was about 130 km from Haldu00a0wani in Uttarakhand and 363 km from New Delhi.
Besides NCR, tremors were also felt in Dehra Dun, Nainital and Chandigarh. "I was sitting in my room, when I felt the earth shaking beneath my feet. I just got up to check what was happening when I realised that it was an earthquake. Thankfully, it was just a minor one. After seeing what happened in Japan, I am really scared of earthquakes," said Manoj Khurana, a management employee.
"I was sitting and watching television when I suddenly realised that my chair was shaking. At first, I ignored it, but soon I realised that it's an earthquake," said Anjana Sachdeva, a student of Gargi College, Delhi University.
