Comedian Mehmood's 24-year-old grandson was arrested on charges of blackmailing and raping his aunt.
The accused, Maheed Ali, who runs a business in Bangalore, was remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.
Deputy commissioner of police (north east division) Basavraj Malagatti said Maheed, though married, had been having a physical relationship with his 19-year-old aunt for three years. The aunt was married to a man twice her age and had a five-year-old child.
Maheed, who lived in the same building, took advantage of his uncle's frequent business trips and started victimising his aunt. When she refused, Maheed allegedly threatened her with a clip which he had recorded during a meetings. The relationship went on for three years due to Maheed's blackmailing ways.
The racket came to light when Maheed's uncle came to know about the relationship and told his wife to file a complaint. It was consensual sex for many years but we booked it under rape after she filed a complaint, Malagatti said.
Police are also planning to question Maheed's uncle since he had married a minor girl. She married when she was 13 and started having an affair with Maheed a year later.
