In a major setback to suspended Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anil Mahabole, the Sessions court rejected his anticipatory bail plea yesterday. The hearing was held in-camera, said the cops.

Mahabole is accused of raping, filming and blackmailing a housewife from Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Kurla. Mahabole had claimed in his bail application that the woman has falsely implicated him, and that she was blackmailing him and sending him threatening messages.

On Tuesday the Crime Branch registered a case of rape against Mahabole at Azad Maidan police station. On Wednesday Home Minister R R Patil announced his suspension in a state council meeting. A Crime Branch source informed that Mahabole would be arrested soon. Advocate Rohini Wagh who is defending Mahabole refused to comment.u00a0
