Locals residing near Grant Road station foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued a six year-old boy from the clutches of a 30 year-old man on Friday night.

Nazir Hussain was sleeping with his parents Nasri and Sunita and grandmother Noorjahan on a pavement near the station when the accused Sheikh Azgar Ansari accosted him and tried to flee at around 10:30 pm.

However, at the same time Noorjehan realised what was happening and raised an alarm, following which nearby residents started chasing Ansari. He ran towards platform number one of Grant Road station where he was finally nabbed by the locals and handed over to Gamdevi police. Senior police inspector Pradip Lonandkar of Gamdevi police station said, "We have arrested the accused under IPC Section 363. He was produced in the court on Saturday and has been remanded to police custody. The accused seems to be a drug addict." u00a0
