National language the only Indian one among the 42 tongues on the new iPhone translator application

A translation application on the iPhone features 42 languages, including Hindi.

Called iTranslate Plus, it offers translation between any two languages, and is classified as a productivity application.

iTranslate Plus is based on Google Translate, which is constantly improved, and a reviewer describes it as useful for simple conversation.

At 1.99 dollars (Rs 93), it looks like a steal, but, as the website AppCraver's reviewer warns, "If you encounter a problem with, say, translating English to Tagalog, and you wind up in jail, don't blame me."

iTranslate Plus translates text, but does not give a phonetic representation of what it translates. "Where apps are concerned, Hindi is the only Indian language Apple seems to recognise," said Amrita, an iMac user. "I wish they would consider all the other languages we have."

Languages offered: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Tagalog, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Thai, Turkish, Maltese, Hungarian, Albanian, Estonian, Galician, and Farsi.

Language matters: The new iPhone translator application is just one of the few interesting applications on the phone. iPhone now follows many other media giants including Google that have allowed transliterator applications.

Facebook and it's decision to allow multi-language usage has also made it another popular language-based online application
